Tasks that have auto-release payments work the same way as any task, up until the Tasker finishes work and requests payment. This means that the funds are secured when you assign a Tasker, and they stay held in escrow while the task is ongoing.
The difference begins when the Tasker clicks Request payment. Clicking this will schedule the payment to be released automatically exactly 24 hours later. No action is required from you here, the release will happen without your input.

What tasks are eligible for auto-release?
We’re currently trialling auto-release payments for a small section of tasks so, at the moment, only tasks created from subscriptions and bookings may be eligible. Just like auto-release, these are new to Airtasker and so can only be posted for general home cleaning and removalists.
If you’re not familiar with subscriptions and bookings yet, check out our Help Centre sections here to find out more.
What should I do if the Tasker requests an auto-release payment early?
Just like with any task on Airtasker, the Tasker should only request payment once they’ve finished work. If they request payment early, you have the ability to pause the auto-release payment until they have completed the task. We’ve let Taskers know this is a possibility, so they shouldn’t request early.
If you do want to pause, simply click the Pause payment button on the task page. Unpausing is then just as easy, and can be done by clicking the Resume payment button.
What happens if I pause the auto-release payment?
You have the option to pause the auto-release of payment after a Tasker has requested it. You’re able to do this in any case where you’re not ready for payment to be released, including if the Tasker hasn’t finished work yet, or if you’re unsatisfied with the work.
To pause, simply click the Pause payment button on the task page. If you do this, we’d also recommend reaching out to the Tasker to let them know why. Try to calmly communicate with them and set their expectations about when you will resume payment. If there’s a disagreement, you can use our guide to help negotiate a resolution.
Airtasker can also step in to assist if you’ve paused payment and can’t agree with the Tasker about resuming it. Check out more information about our free dispute resolution service here.
What happens if I unpause the auto-release payment?
When you’re ready to resume a paused auto-release payment, all you need to do is click the Resume payment button. This will reactivate the scheduled release at the original time (24 hours after the Tasker clicked the request payment button). If this time has already passed, the payment will be released immediately.
Auto-release tasks work the same way as any task up until you request payment. This means that the funds are secured and held in escrow while you’re doing the task.
The difference begins when you click Request payment. Clicking this will schedule the payment to be released automatically exactly 24 hours later. No action is required from the Poster for this to happen - no more chasing payments!

What tasks are eligible for auto-release?
We’re currently trialling auto-release payments for a small section of tasks, so at the moment, it's only an option for instant claimables (like subscriptions and bookings). Just like auto-release, these are new to Airtasker and so can only be posted for general home cleaning and removalists.
If you’re not familiar with instant claimables yet, check out our Help Centre section here to find out more.
When should I request payment for auto-release tasks?
Just like with any task on Airtasker, you should only request payment after the task is complete. If you request payment early, there’s a good chance that the Poster will pause the auto-release, which can delay your payment.
Also, keep in mind that the Poster still has the option to leave a review about their experience for auto-release tasks. Requesting payment before work is complete can make a Poster feel stressed or alarmed, which may, in turn, contribute to them leaving you a negative review.
What happens if the Poster pauses the auto-release payment?
Posters have the option to pause the auto-release of payment after you’ve requested it. Doing so will stop the payment from being released on the schedule and continue to hold it in escrow. A Poster may pause if you request payment before completing the task, or if the Poster isn’t happy with the completion of the task.
If the Poster clicks pause, but you’ve completed the task and aren’t aware of any problems, we’d recommend reaching out to the Poster as a first step. Try to calmly communicate to get to the bottom of things. If there’s a disagreement, you can use our guide to help negotiate a resolution.
Airtasker can also step in to assist if payment has been paused and you can’t come to an agreement with the Poster. Check out more information about our free dispute resolution service here.
What happens when the Poster unpauses the auto-release payment?
When the Poster is ready to resume a paused auto-release payment, all they need to do is click the Resume payment button. This will reactivate the scheduled release at the original time (24 hours after you clicked Request payment). If this time has already passed, the payment will be released immediately.
