What is Personal Accident Cover and how does it work for Taskers?

From 1 April 2018 Airtasker will offer Personal Accident Cover that provides all Taskers with a degree of personal accident protection in the event of an accident that results in injuries covered under the policy while performing a task.

For eligible claims the policy may provide lump sum payments that help to lessen the financial burden for the Tasker and their family.

The cover will operate only while the Tasker is performing the task and during their direct travel to and from the task location. It will provide a no-fault injury cover for the Tasker regardless of the party whose negligence resulted in the accident.

Whilst this cover provides a safety net, Taskers will also be encouraged to review and increase the proposed cover to a level which is in keeping with their personal work/lifestyle requirements. Likewise Taskers are encouraged to take out Income Protection insurance which is also available from Roobyx.

Benefits

  • Accidental death or permanent disablement: Lump sum payments of up to $100,000
  • Accidental broken or fractured bone(s): Lump sum payments of up to $6,000

To be eligible for this policy the Tasker must be:

  • An Australian resident or legally able to work in Australia
  • Between 18 and 65 years of age
  • A registered Tasker of Airtasker. Subcontractors are not covered unless they are registered on Airtasker

Exclusions

  • Injuries/death resulting from illness, sickness, disease or pre-existing conditions
  • Criminal activities or self-inflicted injuries
  • Long distance delivery (further than a radius of 250 kilometres from the point of departure), heavy haulage delivery or bicycle courier/delivery
  • Certain activities which are deemed hazardous, as detailed under ‘Exclusions’ in the Personal Accident Cover terms (see attachment at the bottom of the page)
  • Tasks not completed and paid via the Airtasker platform - this includes any tasks paid via alternative means (e.g. cash in hand)

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How will Personal Accident Cover work for tasks performed remotely?
    • Where the Tasker is actually performing the task (provided it is in Australia) is immaterial. That is, it could be on the Poster’s premises, the Tasker's premises or in a public place
  • Are the any general requirements for evidence to substantiate a claim?
    • At time of claim the Tasker, or their next of kin, will need to substantiate/prove they were performing an Airtasker task at the time of the accident giving rise to the injury which resulted in the Tasker’s death or disablement. Airtasker's records will also be used to substantiate there was in fact an open task in place at the time
    • Claims must be lodged within 30 calendar days of the date of the injury occurring
    • The policy only covers accidents giving rise to a claim. Accident is defined as a sudden, unexpected, unusual, specific, external event which occurs at an identifiable time and place during the Period of Insurance
  • Are there any restrictions related to the task categories or task value?
    • Yes. Most tasks performed by eligible Taskers are covered. However, certain activities which are deemed hazardous are excluded, as detailed under 'Exclusions' in the Personal Accident Cover terms (see attachment at the bottom of the page)
  • Do excesses apply?
    • No excess applies
  • What happens if the injury is caused by the Poster?
    • Accidental injuries are covered regardless of who is at fault
  • What should I do if I get injured or there is an accidental death?
  • How does the claims process work?
    • In the first instance contact support@airtasker.com. We will forward the case to Roobyx who will assess each claim on a case by case basis. The claimant may be required to provide evidence to substantiate the claim and prove that the eligibility criteria were met

All coverage is subject to the policy's terms and conditions. For more detail please contact support@airtasker.com.
